The ‘Porte Traine’ was destroyed in 1591; the ‘Porte Viennoise’ was demolished in the early 19th century (1802-1810)
« Portas item, veteres & novas : earum nomina & inscriptiones dabimus.
Veteres construxit Maximianus qui à Diocletiano eò missus, duas ex quadrato lapide ita posuit, ut antiquitas eas non perdiderit. »
= We shall give the names and inscriptions of the old and new gates.
The old ones were built by Maximian, who was sent here by Diocletian; there are two, constructed with stone blocks which remain untouched by time.
