The tower alluded to by Le Lièvre is the ‘Tour d’Orange’, the name of which probably originates in the imprisonment of Louis de Chalon, Prince of Orange, in the tower constructed during the reign of Charles VII on the remains of the portico of the baths (Chorier 1658, p. 382-383)
« En ceste guerre des enfans de France contre Sigismond Roy de Bourgongne, le Prince d’Orenge estoit Lieutenant general dudit Roy, lequel fut prins prisonnier par un Gentilhome de la maison de Grollé, & long temps reclud à Vienne dans la grosse tour de la maison forte des Chanaux »
