Rivail’s account of the existence of a temple, already in a state of ruin in the first third of the 16th century, is unique. At the end of the 16th century, Alphonse Delbène mentions the villa and the tomb of M. Allo Anivus (Prieur 1989, p. 19). Later accounts of the site only mention architectural fragments and marble blocks
= In this village of which it is question there are numerous ancient remains [ ], in particular, those of a large edifice, entirely demolished but for its foundations. If I am not mistaken, this was a Roman temple; it is close to the Christian church which succeeded it.
