« Fuora delle mura della città non molto, vi se vede un anfiteatro antico latericio, in bona parte ruinato, ma non però tanto che tutto non si veda molto bene ; anzi, da i gradi in fuora, e al ala di fuora, quasi tutto il resto sta in piedi. È di assai bona grandezza, e mostra ch’era molto bello. »
= Not far beyond the city walls, one can see an antique amphitheatre built in brick; it is a good deal run-down, but not so much that its general aspect is very impaired; indeed, apart from the steps and the external wing, most of it is still standing. It is rather sizeable and was clearly once very splendid.
