« Auparavant les Empereurs Diocletian & Maximilian y firent faire deux Portes faites de pierre de taille, dont l’une fut appellée Romana Jovia, pour gratifier Diocletian, qui s’égaloit à Jupiter, & l’autre Herculea, à l’honneur de Maximilian, qui se faisoit égal à Hercule. Il y a une Inscription sur chaque Porte en mémoire de ces deux Empereurs ».
