After a second edition published in 1667 in the family workshop at the residence of Jacques Du Breuil’s widow and their son Jacques II, the Art universel des fortifications by Jean Du Breuil, reprinted the following year, came out in a third edition attributable to his nephew Jacques II. As were the preceding books, it is ascribed to Silvère de Bitainvieu, an anagram of “Jean Du Breuil iesuite”.
