Transcribed version of the text

In 1648 German and French translations of the Architectura militaris moderna, published the preceding year at the shop of Lowijs Elzevier, came out simultaneously. These translations guaranteed success for the work all through the 17 th century.
Contrary to the French translation, the German version, attributed to Philipp von Zesen, comprises neither dedication nor introductory words. On the other hand the work opens with a “Dolmetscher”, a trilingual alphabetic lexicon which gives Latin and French translations of the German terms.
