Simon de Colines published two other editions of the Raison darchitecture antique in 1539 and 1542 , which differ very little from the original edition of 1536 . In the three cases the work is in quarto, with 51 leaves. The title pages, decorated with the same arch in perspective which replaces the Corinthian capital in the Spanish edition, are made different by the bookseller’s headword and the mention of the privilege in the edition with no date. The typographical changes are minor, and are due to the new layout of the text (different syllable separations, use or nonuse of abbreviations…), but most of the time the leaf is finished in a similar fashion. In 1539 the text was entirely revised, the spelling and punctuation modernized. But unlike the 1536 edition, the five bases were enriched with enlarged representations of the profiles of their moldings, in which their proportions are indicated according to a completely new system, a system which would be used by Jean Goujon, Cosimo Bartoli, Hans Blum and then by Jean Bullant. The geometric indication of the proportions gives an undeniable autonomy to the illustration, because it dispenses the reader from consulting fastidious descriptions.
