In 1608 Denise Cavellat published Sagredo’s final work. The title was modernized and for the first time carried the name of the Spanish author. The book was paginated from then on (111 pages) and enlarged with a table of contents (“Table des chapitres”). The text was recomposed but the woodcuts are identical to those of the 1555 edition, which had been divided up between Gilles Gourbin and Guillaulme Cavellat, Denise’s father. The spelling or certain figures of speech were brought up to date. Nevertheless a few misprints remain: (“autheurs” instead of “hauteurs”). In the 17 th century the treatise remained relevant, a manual as handy for practicians as for those keen on architecture, because it was still in the library of both François Mansart, and of Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc.
